Tim Woodward

Tim Woodward was born in Brisbane in 1985. He is a Melbourne artist working on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations.

His interdisciplinary practice includes the production of sculpture, moving image artworks and writing. Lifting found objects out of everyday circulation, Woodward’s practice rearranges universal signs and restages old symbols. His attentiveness to simple yet unexpected combinations takes inspiration from the infinitely editable spaces of language, a consistent influence on his way of thinking and making. 

He completed a Bachelor of Fine Art - Visual Art [Honours] at the Queensland University of Technology in 2007 and a Master of Fine Art at Monash School of Art Design and Architecture in 2020, completing the History and Images course at Salzburg International Academy of Fine Art, under the supervision of Peter Friedl in 2012.

Woodward has exhibited both locally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in China, Germany and Indonesia. He has actively contributed to the running of various independent arts organisations in Australia and was a founding Co-Director of Boxcopy (2007-2011). In 2021, Woodward established Working At Heights (WAH), a curatorial program of one-night exhibitions hosted by Artery Cooperative, Melbourne.

Recent exhibitions include, 'Too', Solvent, Sydney and 'Partial', Haydens Gallery, Melbourne, 2026, 'Value Added', QAGOMA, Brisbane, 2023 and 'Stimulus Package', FUSE Autumn 2021 Festival, Darebin, Melbourne in 2021. Earlier shows include 'Silent Aspiration', MADA Galleries, Monash University, Melbourne, 2020, 'Sleeping Under a Motorcycle Not Sleepy', Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne 2020, '8 Soups', Institute for Provocation, Beijing, 2019 and ARTJOG MMXIX Arts In Common, Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta, 2019.

Tim has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including an Australian Postgraduate Award, the NAVA Sainsbury Sculpture Award, an Asialink Visual Art residency, the NAVA Australian Artists' Grant, Art Gallery of New South Wales Moya Davey Cité des Arts Studio Residency, Art & Australia Credit Suisse Private Banking Contemporary Art Award, Copyright Agency Action Fund, Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant, the Queensland Art Gallery Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship and the Janet Holmes à Court Artists Grant.
